If you want to call somewhere home.. Somewhere that is not your birthright.. Learn it. Deeply. Study the politics, the past, the histories, the cultures. Dive into the conflict and the hurt and the displacement. If you think you deserve the right to call it's beautiful aspects home- You better understand what this land has seen. What it's people have been through. And how not to contribute to the problem. Naivety is the problem. Knowing geographical features creates memory. Knowing history creates connection. Doing nothing, knowing nothing- is perpetuating the problem. The pain. The appropriations. Of lands. Of cultures. Of histories. Do not call a place home if you do not strive deeply to understand it's wounds. Your Kuleana is to not allow history a repetition. Your responsibility is to stop taking from a land that is not your birthright. But instead learning of it's scars. How to heal them. How to give back. And how to help cultivate its growth for the better. Then, and only then, do you have the right to fully take on the persona of the land and find home and refuge in her beautiful corners. Love responsibly. //: On Home
